QuNet Project Launches to Advance Physical and Link Layer Interfaces for Multi-Node Quantum Networks
The QuNet project has officially launched, aiming to establish a foundation for future quantum networks infrastructures by developing physical and link layer interfaces for multi-node quantum networks. QuNet is part of the BAMPLA – Design and Evaluation of Broadband Networks and Services research group within the Department of Network Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC).
Supported by the CNS2024-154600 grant from the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (Spain) under the MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 program, QuNet is set to play a central role in the development of scalable and interoperable quantum network technologies.
The project focuses on three key areas: modeling and assembling physical quantum communication nodes; developing and characterizing communication protocols for linking these nodes; and contributing to the standardization of solutions at both national and international levels. With these pillars, QuNet aims to enable seamless integration of quantum networks within future telecommunication systems.
At the national level, QuNet aspires to consolidate a reference group in quantum engineering networks, building on the knowledge and experience accumulated by leading academic institutions since 2010. Internationally, it opens the door to new collaborations with premier research groups in quantum communications.
QuNet is currently expanding its team and welcomes applications for several open positions, including post-doctoral researchers in quantum networking, research engineers specializing in electronics and photonics, and PhD or industrial PhD students interested in contributing to this cutting-edge field.
