Title: "Impact of transmission cost on Age of Information at Nash
equilibrium in random-based medium access
"

Talk. C3-005, Campus Nord (UPC). Also online:https://meet.google.com/tvx-wahz-hte

Abstract: Random-based medium access protocols are often considered inefficient and unstable from a game theoretic perspective, because the players (i.e., the transmitters) want to maximize their individual utility and so they tend to be very aggressive, which causes collisions. Generally, this is limited by introducing a cost for the transmission. However, if each player's objective is high throughput, the aggressiveness is only partially limited as the resulting equilibrium is inefficient. We show that, if the objective shifts to age-of-information, the resulting equilibrium can become more efficient. Interesting, this has some simple analytical formulation in basic protocols like slotted ALOHA, but becomes still valid in more advanced techniques where irregular-repetition or capture-effect are inserted.

"Talk on 5G: technology and security"

Abstract:  In the next years, 5G will introduce hundreds of new services and applications, which will benefit from the advanced features of the 5G network. The new scenarios foreseen in 5G are: (1) Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC) including applications with strict requirements on latency and reliability for mission-critical communications, such as remote surgery, autonomous vehicles or the tactile Internet; (2) Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) which includes data-driven use cases requiring high data rates across a wide coverage area; and (3) Massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC) which support a very large number of devices in a small area that may only send data sporadically, such as Internet of Things (IoT) use cases.

5G is a new network that is currently being developed and implemented. This offers the possibility of approaching security not only as a response to threats, but also from the moment of designing the network and starting the development of the elements of the network. However, before approaching security in the 5G, we should recognise that a completely secure network will never be possible…

Talk: "An NFV system to support service provisioning on UAV networks”

- Speaker: Borja Nogales, from UC3M.

Where: Classroom C4-021B and meet.google.com/nvc-qepq-axz
________________________________________________
Abstract: We will describe the design an implementation of an NFV system capable of deploying moderately complex network services over a wireless ad-hoc network of resource-constrained compute nodes. The system design targets aerial networks built by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and it relies on container virtualization to support the execution of network functions within constrained environments, as well as on mobile ad-hoc networking to support the underlying end-to-end network communications. The presentation will also cover the implementation experience from developing this NFV system, which is based on relevant and widely-adopted open-source technologies in the NFV arena such as ETSI Open-Source MANO (OSM) and OpenStack. In addition, we will present the integration of this system into a distributed NFV testbed spanning three different remote sites in Spain, i.e., Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), and Universidad del País Vasco (UPV-EHU). The goal of this testbed is to explore synergies among NFV, UAVs, and 5G vertical services, following a practical approach primarily governed by experimentation.

Title: "Multi-agent navigation of autonomous vehicles and parking problems"

Talk. C3-005, Campus Nord (UPC).  Also online: https://meet.google.com/fgb-usnn-bxz

Abstract:  Intelligent autonomous vehicles navigating in a smart city environment need to find a parking spot, but the task of efficiently using parking resources is at odds with the selfish nature of competing agents. If we model the problem through game theory, we can evaluate the efficiency of a distributed decision mechanism. At the same time, we
also gain insight on the complexity of identifying efficient solutions and hint that the overall problem is difficult to solve without compromising the inherent selfish objective of each individual vehicle.

Title: "A Game of One/Two Strategic Friendly Jammers Versus a Malicious Strategic Node"

Abstract: This talk presents some research applications in the context of friendly jamming, where jamming is performed by the legitimate network to defeat a malicious transmitter. We will see how game theory is able to find interesting and sometimes counterintuitive behaviors when analyzing this jamming problem in the presence of one or multiple jammers.
